Where is the Dominican Republic?

What money should I bring? Should I be worried about malaria? Can I drink the water? Is it safe? For all this and more, click on the flag.

Ah, Cabarete... so good I named the web site after it.

Twenty years ago, this was a one horse town, now you can spendUS$1.5 million on a beach front apartment. But apart from the great beach, kite & wind surfing, beautiful people, superb weather, lovely restaurants, quality condominiums... apart from that... what's Cabarete there for? Well read on... and it isn't all good news

There are some really nice restaurants on the beach at Cabarete,

I give my thoughts on most of them. You want to know the happy hours? I'll guide you to the bargains too! Remember this information changes frequently and I don't live there, so if you want to send me your thoughts, please do, keith@cabarete.org

Where to stay in Cabarete?

Well, whenever I stay in Cabarete, I head for this lovely three bedroom apartment at Royal Residence that is central to Cabarete. The owners are really nice and helpful too! (I would say that, I am the owner! Available for rent at very reasonable prices)If you want something different, there are a couple of other unsolicited recommendations listed too, places I've stayed in the past. No paid for adverts on this site! (That's not a moral standpoint, simply no one has offered me money yet!)

KITE SURFING that's what it's all about isn't it?

Well, unless you are a windsurfer, or a beach lover, or just want to chill out in the bars? But it really is great for kitesurfing and if you bothered to read the 'about Cabarete' section, you'll know that kitesurfing is what started the boom years off. Personally, there isn't a hope of getting me on a board, but I love to take photos... The links in this section are unsolicited and are not endorced by me, they are simply a few of the places that I've seen are popular. A windsurf photo may slip in too...

Humpback whales mate or to give birth in Samana Bay.

From late December until early March these great mammals are in Samana Bay before setting off back up to the coastal areas of Canada. During the peak times, you really are guaranteed to see some of these majestic animals close up. I've been three times now and have had a great day every time. If you are in the Dominican Republic when the whales are too, I urge you to go. Follow the link for advice as to how to get the most from your day and for your money.

UPDATE: February 19th to 22nd, Kite Boarding 4 Kids.
From February 19th to 22nd there is a competition with a difference in Cabarete. This one is designed to raise money for a number of children's charities in the Dominican Republic. If you are in Cabarete during that period, get yourself along, enjoy the specticle (or join in if you kitesurf) and put your hand in your pocket too. There is going to be live music there too, so it should be a great party! Have fun AND do good at the same time? That's a win-win situation!
