Apartment 120, Royal Residence,

Cabarete,

Dominican Republic.

Royal Residence is situated in Cabarete, one of the world's top kitesurfing beaches. For information about the Dominican Republic, tourism here in general and Cabarete specifically, please visit www.cabarete.org. Both sites are under development so new content will be regularly added.

My apartment here is available for rent. It is spacious, with three bedrooms and three shower rooms, two en-suite. It's ideal for families or a group of friends and could comfortably accomodate three couples.

The apartment is literally an easy, two minutes walk to the beach, without needing to cross any roads.

This images shows the beach taken from the top of the block where the apartment is situated, so you can see how close it is. Unfortunately, there is no access through the hotel next door, hence the easy walk around it.

Similarly the town of Cabarete is right on the doorstep. Cabarete is a generally safe town, with little trouble for most tourists. As with any tourist area, there is always a risk of petty theft but with sensible precautions you should have no worries. My wife has stayed here on her own and was quite content to walk into the town and back, at night, unescorted. She felt entirely safe. You would be more at risk of a twisted ankle! The road was re-surfaced late 2006 only to be dug up again for new sewerage pipes being laid in 2007. The pavement has not yet recovered from this trauma! A small pocket torch is useful for guiding you home after a few rum & cokes!

In some of the external photographs you can see a yellow building next door. This is a local supermarket. While Walmart or Tesco it's not, you can get a reasonable selection of items. Some things are 'lost in translation', the joys of traveling. Like, if you want eggs, indicate to the guy behind the meat counter and he'll give you a polystyrene tray. Put the eggs you want in it, then return to the meat counter where he will put cling-film over them to stop them rattling around in your bag on the way home. And I don't know about anywhere else in the world but in England we don't order 'ham' and get a cooked pork chop! Tasted good though, so that was okay.

If there are any questions that aren't covered on this web site or www.cabarete.org, please e-mail me to ask and I will answer as honestly as possible. I'd rather someone go elsewhere if the answers suggest this apartment or town isn't for them, than come here and feel they didn't have a good time because I'd 'tricked them' or been less than honest. My ideal situation is to have repeat guest who like the place so much, they come back every year, because word of mouth is the best advertising money can't buy!
